To make this plant hanger you will need the following materials:
6x 4.5 meter (16,5 foot) of 5mm (0,2") white cotton rope
2x 2 meter (6,5 foot) of 3mm (0,1") mustard cotton rope
2x 2 meter (6,5 foot) of 3mm (0,1") salmon cotton rope
1x wood ring
Starting a plant hanger
To start your plant hanger cut 6 equal sections of white cotton rope of 4.5 meter (15 foot) each. If you buy our kit, cut the bundle into 6 equal sections. Take the 6 sections of rope and find the middle of each, pull all 6 ropes trough the wood ring.
Now it is time for the most difficult knot in this pattern, the wrapping knot or gathering knot. Use the mustard colored rope and hold the end between your thumb and index finger. Loop the rope around your pinky and back up to your thumb and index finger. Now start wrapping the rope 10 times. Pull the remaining rope through the loop and pull on the rope end at the top to tighten the loop. Now trim the bottom end and pull on the top to hide and secure the rope end. Trim the top end and hide it.
Do the same for the salmon colored rope, but wrap the rope 7 times.
The middle section
Take 4 ropes and leave about 15 cm (6") and start your first spiral knot. Tie 8 spiral knots in total. Followed by 3 square knots and finish by tying 8 spiral knots.
Making the basket and finish your plant hanger
To finish the plant hanger tie a square knot about 15 cm (6,5") below your last spiral knot. Now take 2 ropes of 1 'arm' and 2 ropes of the next 'arm' and tie a square knot about 10 cm (4"). Connect all 3 arms this way. Repeat this another time about 10 cm (4") lower. To finish your plant hanger tie a wrapping knot with the mustard and salmon rope the same way as you did at the start. Now all that is left is trimming your rope ends.
The knots used
Below you will find a visual explanation of some of the knots used in this pattern. IF you are interested in learning more different knots you can visit my Macrame Guide.
Spiral knot
The spiral knot creates a beautiful helix or DNA spiral. It is especially well suited to use when creating plant hangers.
The spiral knot is actually a square knot, but tied repeatedly. The knot becomes offset, forming a spiral that twists down.
Start out by bending the left working cord, cross it over the filler cords and then under the right working cord. Pass the right working cord behind the filler cords and pull it through the loop created by the left working cord. Gently pull on both cords. Keep repeating the above steps until the spiral is the desired length.
Square knot
Square Knot are strong and one of the most common knots used in macramé. The square knot is done in 2 parts. Start out by bending the left working cord, cross it over the filler cords and then under the right working cord. Pass the right working cord behind the filler cords and pull it through the loop created by the left working cord. Gently pull on both cords. The knot is now half way done.
You finish the knot by doing the same, but in reverse. Bend the right working cord, cross it over the filler cords and then under the left working cord. Pass the left working cord behind the filler cords and pull it through the loop created by the left working cord. Now pull on both cords again. You are done!
Really enjoyed making my macrame basket, especially during lockdown it was great to create something and it looks really good! The online tutorial on the website is really useful too (although I wish I could have paused the videos as it took me awhile to get the jist of the knots!) Would recommend!

Shipping took awhile but that’s totally not the seller’s fault! The kit was everything I had hoped it would be and the macrame pot holder came out beautifully! Easy instructions and good quality material for a great price. Thanks!

As soon as I received my order, I knitted it, unfortunately I did not take a photo, until now I do not dedicate myself to selling, almost everything I do for gifts, I am seriously thinking of later doing a mini-business of this, I want you to know that I am happy with your product, I even went back to make another order, regards and continue to be very successful

Ik had een kleine bestelling als aanvulling op een eerdere bestelling via Bol.com.
Beide bestellingen liepen gesmeerd en de kwaliteit van de producten is prima.
Mooie kwaliteit! Mooie warme kleuren! Heel netjes verpakt en snel geleverd! Kortom, heel tevreden.
Als ik toch iets mag zeggen. Ik verwerk veel houten kralen in mijn werk. Het zou fijn zijn als ik die ook bij jullie zou kunnen bestellen.
Al meerdere keren bij Mango and More besteld. Het touw is echt van goede kwaliteit en wordt in keurige verpakking thuisbezorgd. Al een paar vrienden een macramé wandkleed cadeau gedaan en ga binnenkort weer aan de slag voor een kraamcadeau. Mooi spul!
